Personal Debit Card FAQs

The Watertown Savings Bank Debit Card is a convenient, fast, and safe way to make purchases right from your checking account. Simply stop by any of our offices and supply us with some basic information, then we will send you your card right in the mail. It’s that easy. Even better, there are no monthly fees. Once your card arrives, you’re on your way. You can use it to access your accounts, just like an ATM card, plus use it like a check. No more wasted time writing checks and holding up the line of people behind you, just sign the receipt and go. And each transaction you make will be listed on your monthly checking account statement. It’s still your ATM card, but now much more. Just one of the many ways Watertown Savings Bank is meeting the needs of its customers. Make shopping easy, and apply for your card today. You’ll be glad you did.

Since your PIN is your best protection against anyone else being able to access your account, it’s a good idea to memorize these numbers and keep them a secret. Make a record of it somewhere other than on or with your card. And if your card is lost or stolen, call us immediately at 315-788-7100 or toll free at 1-800-870-8510.

Q: Where can I use my Debit Card?
A: Our Debit Card is also a VISA® Card, which means it can be used at restaurants, hotels, stores, the Internet or anywhere Visa is accepted.

Q: How do I use my Debit Card to pay for purchases?
A: When you present your card for payment, some merchants will require you to sign a sales slip. Other merchants will ask if you want to use it as a Credit or Debit/ATM. Whichever you choose, the transaction will be automatically deducted from your Watertown Savings Bank checking account.

Q: If I’m using my card at the cash register, should I choose “Credit” or “Debit”?
A: When presented with a choice for selecting “credit” or “debit” at the cash register (or even at the gas pump), always select “credit” - the transaction will still be deducted from your checking account and you won’t have to reveal your PIN number because the purchase is backed by the power of VISA.

Q: Since my Debit Card is also a VISA card, does that mean I’m using a credit card?
A: No, this is a debit card, which means that transactions are deducted directly from your Watertown Savings Bank checking account. But since your card carries the familiar VISA logo, it is accepted anywhere you use a credit card.

Q: How is my card different from a credit card?
A: The VISA® logo allows you to make purchases anywhere VISA® is accepted, just like a credit card. Each purchase is deducted from your Watertown Savings Bank checking account and there are no finance or interest charges.

Q: What should I do if I have any disputes with a merchant?
A: You would first contact the merchant and try to resolve the dispute with them. If you are not able to resolve the dispute with them, contact us and we will be happy to help you.

Q: What should I do if my Personal Identification Number (PIN) does not work?
A: Please contact us to have your PIN reset.
